The most important tool a witch or wizard can own, a wand is the physical object through which magic is channelled. Although magic can be performed without a wand, this tool can help the caster perfect a range of spells and charms. Although there are many wandmakers across the world, Britain's most known wandmaker was Garrick Ollivander who was famous for supplying wands to Hogwarts students, including Lord Voldemort and Harry Potter. Ollivander wands usually featured a magical core of either phoenix feather, unicorn hair or dragon heartstring, but other witches and wizards of other nationalities may have different ones. For example, Fleur Delacour had a Veela hair inside her wand.
Wands are made of varying woods and come in different lengths and flexibilities, and the combinations of all of these different factors can make certain wands more proficient in certain magical skills.
