The Levitation Charm

One of the first charms taught at Hogwarts, Wingardium Leviosa allows casters to levitate objects. Although students first experimented on smaller, lighter objects such as feathers, ultimately the charm could be used on much heavier items. Although a basic spell it’s important that the caster gets both the movement and the pronunciation of the charm correct. As Professor Flitwick reminded his Charms class, the ‘swish and flick’ is fundamental to the correct casting of the spell, whilst Hermione Granger's insistence on the correct pronunciation ‘Wing-GAR-dium Levi-O-Sa’ didn't make her many friends but proved successful in levitating her feather.
