Defence Against the Dark Arts

A required class taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Defence Against the Dark Arts taught students how to defend themselves against all aspects of the Dark Arts including curses, hexes, jinxes and studying Dark magical creatures. There was rumoured to be a jinx on the Hogwarts teaching position as professors didn't tend to last more than a year in the post. During Harry Potter's time at the school, his professors included Quirinus Quirrell, Remus Lupin, Gilderoy Lockhart and Alastor "Mad Eye" Moody. However, in later years, less favourable teachers would teach this class in very different ways.
