Basilisk

Basilisks are enormous poisoned-fanged serpents. Unlike other snakes, the Basilisk is unique in its ability to kill with its gaze alone. Looking into the eye of the Basilisk will cause instantaneous death, however, even catching a glance of it in a reflection will cause Petrification, or total paralysis. Created by hatching a chicken egg under a toad, Basilisk breeding was banned in the medieval age due to the danger they posed. Basilisks are loyal to wizards that speak Parseltongue, a rare gift shared usually by dark wizards including Tom Riddle and Salazar Slytherin.
